Welcome!  Listening to the wisdom of our body is a precious gift we can give to ourselves. Major shifts happen as we tune in to our body’s call to greater balance. Here is a little about my healing journey – a story of how a powerful change for the better came when I least expected it….

Fourteen years ago, an innocent activity of helping move cases of food in a community project tipped the balance
in my stressed out life. Two discs in my neck had given way, one bulging and one herniated. I was in pain and moving very slowly; my entire body had gone in to a “freeze” or protective state.

Joseph Goldstein a founder of the Insight Meditation Society, where I worked at that time, recommended that
I seek out a yoga therapist. I doubted I would be able to do any poses but heeded his advice. My self-assessment
was correct. I was unable to move my spine or neck more than what felt like a millimeter. Then half-way through
the session, my spine suddenly elongated without conscious effort and as I exhaled, a deep sound came from within.

It was unbelievable. The yoga therapist exclaimed,“June, your body wants to heal!”

I knew from that moment I would recover. Since moving to Victoria, BC I have come to learn about Somatic Experiencing, a body-based approach to healing. Through Somatic Experiencing and mindfulness/ meditation practices, I continue to have “aha” moments where something deep from within leads to greater peace and freedom in my body, mind and spirit. My spine is healthy now, although it will speak up quickly if I am out of balance.

Our bodies are wise.
